Peggy’s Linen Stash!
It’s been a couple of weeks since my husband and I made a quick trip over to Kansas City and picked up a few tubs of vintage linens. I had an email from a follower, my new friend, Peggy S. She was looking for someone that might pick up 5 tubs of linens she was purging. Well, I talked my husband into a little road trip and here I am, enjoying the process of sorting through a vast array of linens, quilt blocks, towels, tablecloths, etc.
These are not just tiny tubs, they are large! I’ve picked out a few favorite linens to clean up. I always soak linens in a mix of Retro Clean (for stains and yellowing) and ammonia (for mildew and mold, 1 part ammonia to 6 parts water). I buy Retro Clean on Amazon, link below. It’s fabulous for whitening and brightening anything! I usually soak at least overnight in a sink or bathtub. Follow directions on the bag. My soak does include both the Retro Clean and ammonia together.
I’m sure my neighbors, those who don’t know what I do, are always wondering about the beautiful things that are always laying out to dry or sunning themselves on the grass. Did you know that sunshine mixed with the chlorophyll from grass, will whiten your fabrics? I usually lay these pieces on the grass once the sun comes out for the afternoon.
I’ve stacked these in my garage so I can slowly work through them, admire and choose a few to work with. I also plan to do a few giveaways to share with other vintage lovers!
I pulled out a few tablecloths yesterday and gave them an overnight soaking. This morning they are out to dry and hopefully I will have some inspiration to quilt up something here very soon!
This was a tied quilt top. Nothing particularly fancy, but I love the shape of the green pieces. Hoping to do some custom quilting on this one, once the mood sets in! 😉

What a terrific find. I, too, love vintage linens, especially ones that have handwork on them. While I don’t quilt them as you do (I do love your inspirations), I take pride in displaying them on my dining room table or as coverings on my bedroom furniture. I’m looking forward to see what you do with these gems.

Ever since I was little I have been in love with hand embroidered items, pillowcases, doilies, tablecloths etc. I have a very small collection because I had never thought to look at antique shops and flea markets! I would LOVE to win this tablecloth to add to my little collection.
I really learned from your video this morning. I mostly do computerized edge to edge. I need to get brave and start using rulers!

I have made masks for all my family members, working on quilts for each of my grandchildren, connecting with my mom who is isolated in assisted living, venturing out to do early gardening, put out feeders for hummingbirds and orioles, and am spending lots of quality time with my husband.
