10 Best Sewing and Quiltling Notions/Tools

On my Facebook page, I’m often sharing a favorite tool or notion I’ve just acquired. I decided to put them all here in one place! Some are affiliate links to Amazon, where I make a few cents when you purchase an item. You do not pay for any of that, it’s taken care of by the seller. Other links may be to small businesses. Did you know that thousands of small businesses sell their items on Amazon? To know if it’s a small business, just select that option in the filters. You’ll find that on the left-hand side of Amazon products. If you don’t have an Amazon Prime account, you can find the link HERE. I think it pays for itself with a multitude of movies throughout the year PLUS the free shipping!! OK, let’s see the good stuff!!

Handi Quilter Batting Scissors

  1. Handi Quilter Batting Scissors can be found in many quilt shops or online. When you purchase from this link on Amazon, you are buying from Handi Quilter, a business that also puts its items on Amazon. I recently was gifted a pair of these scissors after quilting for many years. I had NO idea what I was missing. They are now my go-to for cutting batting!

Clover Fine Pins

2. Clover Fine Pins slide through fabric like butter! I’ve become a pin ‘snob’ because of these wonderful pins. They are heat resistant glass headed pins that can be ironed.

Binding Eaze by Quilted Heartz

3. Binding Eaze is the coolest tool to press your binding or bias tape. See the video here on how it works! Binding Eaze YouTube video I think this is a must have notion!!

Retro Clean Vintage laundry detergent

4. Retro Clean vintage wash. This has been my go-to cleaner for many years. It is gentle on all vintage linens and will safely remove yellow and brown stains from laces, quilts, vintage fabric and more! It removes age old stains and will leave your fabric with renewed color and vitality.

Hobbs Batting

5. Hobbs Batting I am a fan of ALL Hobbs brand batting. My favorites are the 80/20 Heirloom and the washable wool. My local shop in Overland Park, KS, Quilted Memories, can be found in the link. The website is called Batting Super Sale, so you’re at the right place! They also ship free across the lower 48 US states. They also carry Glide thread and many other battings. Check out their shop in the link!

Clover Self-Threading Needles

6. Clover Self-Threading Needles are what I use to bury threads while quilting. They have an open top, so no need to find that hole! Just pop the thread over the top and it locks in. The needle has gold eye plating for easy threading and will not cut your thread as other brands do. This is a must have for quilters! See how I use these on my YouTube channel.

Adjustable Work Table with Drawer

7. Adjustable Work Table with Drawer is my handiest longarm helper! I’m sure you saw this and thought, what are you doing with that, Kelly?!! Well, I roll this up and over my longarm frame and have all my rulers, tools, scissors, notions, iron, like EVERYTHING I need at my longarm. I call it my ‘surgical table’! It rolls away when it’s not needed. I bought this about 10 years ago and honestly, it pays for itself every day! I bought the RED table, but I kind of wish I had gotten the lime green table!

Singer Pro Steam Press

8. Singer Pro Steam Press was my gift to myself a few months ago! Another, why didn’t I get this years ago??!! Whether you’re pressing garments or yardages of fabric (or feedsacks, ME!!), this is an amazing steam/presser. My mom says ‘back in the day’ they called them a mangle. Whatever you want to call it, pressing times are cut in half with this thing. You can add water so you’ll have a shot of steam at each pressing as well. I just LOVE this!! I bought the 36” model, go big or go home is my theory!!! Pricey, but I decided I was worth it!!

9. Self-Healing Cutting Mat (24” x 36”) is a wonderful self-healing cutting mat. I think mine might have been about 8 years old when I purchased this, so it was time! This one has 5 layer construction and is super sturdy for long rotary cutting use. One side is a color and the other black. I like that I can flip it over when one side gets worn. I’m hoping for a good 10 years with this one!

Rotary Cutter with various pinking blades

10. Rotary Cutter Set with various blades. OK, this one is just fun and for the price, you get the rotary cutter AND the blades. I use this for all my pinking needs. You can put a cutting template next to the blade to get a straight cut. I can never get a straight cut when using pinking shears, so this has been a great tool!

OK! Those were my top 10, even though I could go on and on! I’m sure I’ll add to this at some point and maybe get the list to 15! Maybe you’ll find a new fun tool and support a small business as well. Many of these items can be found at local quilt shops too. I’m a small business, shop local kinda gal when possible!

You can find my Kelly Cline quilting shop HERE with rulers, Schmetz ballpoint longarm needles, feedsack scrap bags, and all kinds of notions to help with pincushion making. I also keep Kelly's Amazon Shop which lists ALL my favorite products and things I use. I might also add an EASY gift to give, a 3 month membership to Audible! ($45, that’s what I’ve gifted in the past) I use Audible and love it and have given it as a last-minute gift to the person who has everything. You can find it in this link, Audible Membership and pick whatever dollar amount you like!

Happy Holidays everyone!

PS!! I’m adding a kitchen wonder!

11. Vegetable Chopper This chopper has been a fabulous new kitchen gadget! I can chop a vegetable soup in minutes and onions, whooooaaaa!! I love to chop onions now!! Wish I would have found this one years ago. It’s fun to use!
