Vintage PINK Double Wedding Ring Quilt

I found this quilt at the Junkerville antique mall in Webb City, MO, just on the outskirts of Joplin a few months ago. I believe it was $25 and I knew not many folks would take on the challenge! I snapped it up and it was on my longarm shortly after that.

I have tips and techniques on how to deal with a quilt like this on my YouTube channel. This video, Longarm a Vintage Quilt can be helpful when working with a hand pieced vintage top.

This is before I used starch and steam on the top. It almost looks untouchable, but once I start that process, it begins to tighten and the excess fabric shrinks. Then, I am able to ditch stitch and do some ruler work.

Quilting a Double Wedding Ring Quilt on my YouTube channel will show you how I use the rulers for stitching. I am using a variety of my rulers on this one, but in this particular segment I’m using the Palm Ruler to help guide my machine for ditch stitching.

Following a ‘ditch’ on a hand pieced quilt top is a challenge in itself! I don’t worry too much if I go out of the ditch, or if I stitch out of the lines, these types of quilts are not about perfection. I like to create a modern look to these age old tops (this one is roughly 1930’s/40’s), but I certainly don’t strive for perfection. I want to get ‘r done and move on to the next!!

SO, here’s my next question. Does your ruler ever squeak? Haha, I know! Funny question, but it happens if you’re holding your ruler too hard against the foot or ruler table.

I did a quick SHORT on YouTube to show how your ruler can squeak. You can find my brand of rulers in the online shop.

I’m just 4 rows away from a finish, but the holiday weekend will postpone that until next week! Merry Christmas everyone, have a terrific weekend!
